The diver found the rudder at the bottom of the marina yesterday. It is as close to sunken treasure as one could hope for. There is some damage to the shoe of the rudder housing but nothing that cant be fixed.
The bolts were completely eaten away on the rudder flange which allowed the rudder to depart unceremoniously. After discussions with the yard, we are going to do a complete inspection of the grounding system on soul Balladeer. If all is found to be ok, then a “hot” marina might be the problem. I will be installing extra “diver’s dream” zincs on the hull as well in the next week.
The most important thing…everyone knows that I am returning on Aug 26th to go away on a much needed holiday with Denise. We are looking forward to kicking back in Bute Inlet for a week or so then perhaps cruise up Johnstone Strait to see the whales for a few days.
